NEWS RELEASE
March 21, 2025
SWIFT CURRENT, SK – We are excited to announce the generous commitment of $25,000 from Larry and Colleen Jensen and family to the Southwest Facility Foundation. The Foundation has raised over $3.9 Million to date since October 2023. These funds are being raised to support future recreation facility construction projects by the City of Swift Current. The Foundation continues to work with the City and to engage with the community and stakeholders regarding the importance and benefit of getting these projects underway.
“On behalf of the SWFF Board, I extend thanks to Larry & Colleen Jensen for their substantial donation to our #BuildIt campaign. Larry and Colleen are long-standing residents of Swift Current who have contributed a great deal to the betterment of our community and we are grateful to be another recipient of their generosity.
Larry and Colleen are retirees who see the value of having up-to-date recreational facilities for all in our region. Sometimes overlooked are the benefits to seniors – such as a year-round area for walking and exercise; and water-related therapies for health recovery. We have also heard how important a community’s amenities are in attracting and retaining professionals, and – as we age – we personally require the services of doctors and therapists, (for example) on a more regular basis.
I encourage other retirees to consider SWFF in their financial plans, be it through cash donation or a letter of commitment or by establishing a bequest.”
– Betty McDougall, SWFF Board of Directors.
Along with fundraising, part of the Foundation’s mission is to share and educate the community about the need, importance, and benefits of new recreation facilities in Swift Current. New facilities provide much-needed space for residents of all ages to gather and participate in a variety of recreational activities, fostering a healthy and active community. Recreation facilities are proven to provide significant boosts to tourism, economic activity, and future growth.
Currently, the City of Swift Current has submitted an application for the Canadian Green & Inclusive Community Buildings grant from the Federal Government which would be a percentage of the building cost. The grant is still outstanding. The City of Swift Current continues to leverage and lobby all levels of government for their assistance and support of future projects.
