SWIFT CURRENT, SK – We are excited to announce that Mike and Laura Ann Carefoot, and family have generously committed $100,000 over 10 years to the Southwest Facility Foundation.

The commitment from Mike and Laura Ann Carefoot (Simcoe Ag Services) takes the Foundation to over $2.5 million dollars committed to support future recreation facility construction projects by the City of Swift Current.

“We are thrilled to announce that Laura Ann and I have decided to donate to the Southwest Facilities Foundation. This decision stems from our deep-rooted connection to Swift Current, where we both grew up and raised our children. We believe in the importance of fostering a vibrant and active community, not just for our children and future grandchildren but for generations to come.

Our contribution is driven by several key factors:

Community Roots:  Having spent our formative years in Swift Current, we have a profound appreciation for the community that shaped us.  We want to give back to the place that has given us so much.

Family & Future Generations:  We value the benefits of an active lifestyle and are excited to see family and future generations enjoy the facilities. This center will be a hub for health, wellness, and community engagement.

Attracting Talent:  We recognize that a state-of-the-art community sports facility can be a significant draw for our employees and their families.  It will also play a crucial role in attracting future talent to our businesses, enhancing the overall appeal of our community.

Community Need:  Swift Current has long needed such a facility.  We have seen the positive impact of similar centers have had throughout Saskatchewan and believe it is time for Swift Current to have its own comparable facility.

We feel any donation is a significant step towards making this dream a reality.  The project has garnered widespread support from local residents, businesses, and organizations all eager to see the positive impact it will bring.” – Mike Carefoot, Simcoe Ag Services

Along with fundraising, part of the Foundation’s mission is to share and educate the community about the need, importance, and benefits of new recreation facilities in Swift Current. New facilities provide much-needed space for residents of all ages to gather and participate in a variety of recreational activities, fostering a healthy and active community. Recreation facilities are proven to provide significant boosts to tourism, economic activity, and future growth.

“Mike, Laura Ann and their family have been such an integral part of our community for many decades, not just from an Agricultural perspective but they and their family have been extremely involved in sports, both playing and coaching for multiple generations.

It’s very humbling to see a family whose kids have long since completed their youth sports in this community recognize the value in what the SWFF is trying to accomplish by helping to facilitate the construction of these new facilities.

We are grateful to Mike, Laura Ann and their kids for offering up their support and being leaders in the Southwest!  We encourage others in the Southwest that wish to show their support to this cause to reach out to us via our website and please consider making use of the Innovation federal credit unions $1,000 matching campaign until December 20th” – Travis Cuthbert, SWFF Vice President

Currently, the City of Swift Current has submitted an application to the Canadian Green & Inclusive Community Buildings grant from the Federal Government. The City of Swift Current continue to leverage and lobby all levels of government for their assistance and support of future projects.
